1980 VOLKSWAGEN SCIROCCO

Often people ask if there is a polish or wax that will remove oxidation from their car's paintwork. In just about every case, there's a solution. So when Mike Potter of Virtual World, an einszett retailer located in Southern California, asked if something could be done about his newly acquired project 1980 Volkswagen Scirocco I told him I'd give it a try knowing quite well the results would be dramatic. Mike told me that the Rocco had never seen a day of polish or wax in its life and worse yet, he didn't know when it was last washed!

As soon as I looked at the car's paintwork, I knew certain areas could not be restored in any way - and this project was in no way going to demonstrate any miracles. If paint doesn't exist, you can't create it out of thin air. But if there was paint, it was going to be given the einszett treatment. Below are photos taken throughout the process. Step 1 - Wash

First thing that had to be done was give this Rocco a very much needed wash. This was essential to remove whatever loose dirt was on the paintwork so that when it came to polishing, the dirt on the paint wouldn't aggravate the paintwork further and make the polishing process go awry. I used einszett Exclusiv Glanz Shampoo to clean the surface properly before treatment.

Step 2 - Cutting Polish

After washing the car, it was time to polish. Extra Paintwork Cleaner (formerly 'Ultra Paint Polish') with its high cutting formula was in order. Extra is gritty initially but each grit breaks down as the polishing process is achieved. This allows the grit to exist long enough to break through oxidation but not long enough to continue its aggressive cutting on the freshly exposed paintwork. Note: You can use a DA Orbital (ex: Porter Cable) or apply by hand. Either way, you will achieve dramatic results.

As soon as the polishing began, the results were immediate. As you can see on the hood of the car, the the changes are significant and dramatic.

Step 3 - Polish

After polishing the entire car with Extra, the paintwork was treated with Paint Polish 'Lack-Politur' which is a general purpose polish. It further enhances the depth and gloss. Paint Polish is designed for today's cars that have swirl marks and other paintwork blemishes such as light oxidation and light scratches. Its benefits also include added depth of gloss and color.

Step 4 - Protect

Polishing is no longer needed. Now it's time to apply a coat of protection with our highly durable Glanz Wax. Glanz Wax will take the abuse from the environment so the paintwork below doesn't need to. This will extend the longevity of the results that have so far been achieved.

As you can see from the photos, the results are self-explanatory. Maximum depth of gloss and color. The only thing you can not realize is the smoothness of the paint--just like glass.
While einszett could not remedy all problems (i.e. pealing paint!), we hope this exemplifies once again, like our Scirocco project, that if einszett can remedy paintwork in this condition, your new car can certainly benefit as well!
